Bellydance Class Descriptions

Bellydance - Fundamentals and Layering
Learn the fundamentals of bellydance movements in Egyptian and cabaret styles. As you progress, refine your technique and build upon your skills through layering movements and combinations.

Big Bold Beautiful Women
This class is tailored to simillar minded ladies who are also learning to embrace their bodies the way they are. Bellydancing is a low impact activity with fun music, colorful veils and hip scarves.

Drills-n-Zills and Cardio Combos
This new class will be an elaborate game of 'Simon Says' - you will get to follow the leader and work up a sweat. No technique will be taught in this class. Remember to bring plenty of water to drink.

Advanced Choreography
Learn choreographies to be performed as a troupe. Music will range from Egyptian songs - fusion to contemporary pop.

Bellydance Conditioning
Practice a series of pilates- and yoga-inspired moves focused on muscle groups you use in bellydancing. Mats are provided - you bring the water bottle, arrive in comfortable clothes, and be prepared to sweat.

Beginner Levels I, II and III
Learn the fundamentals of bellydance movements in Egyptian and cabaret styles. The emphasis is establishing a good vocabulary of basic bellydance movements and learning short choreographies through repetition.

Intermediate Levels I and II
These classes are intended to refine your technique and build upon your skills through layering movements and combinations with a wider variety of bellydance movements. Students should be able to perform the basic movements of bellydance fluidly and comfortably by the time they reach these classes. At these levels, some props may be introduced.

Advanced
Practice complicated combinations and learn how to create combinations and choreographies of your own. Must have two years of previous bellydance experience.

Mother and Daughter Bellydance
Try a new form of quality time with you daughter by learning how to bellydance together. This multi-level class will give you a fun opportunity to bellydance as a duo using both your strengths. Please feel free to come matching and ready to giggle and jiggle.

Bellydance for Youth
Bring your favorite CDs with you and learn some bellydance moves you can use to dance to contemporary music.

Jiggle Wiggle GiggleThis creative dance movement class is for mothers (or fathers!) and young children - a chance to embrace our jiggle, let the little ones wiggle, and have a good giggle. (This class was renamed by a previous young participant from "Jiggle Wiggle" - which she felt just didn't say it right.)

Pre-Postnatal Bellydance
Bellydance is a gentle, low-impact exercise that helps build core muscles while celebrating our femininity. Veil work will also be included in the syllabus. Listen to your body and confirm with your doctor if bellydance is right for you.

Drumming
Learn basic Arabic rhythms on the doumbek and with zills. If you need a doumbek, please contact Johara Samar.
